FAQ — Hiring a Cinematographer in Berlin

  • I’m based in Berlin, Germany. I regularly shoot across Germany (Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt) and throughout Europe. International travel is available — I’ve shot across the Middle East and Eastern Europe. For international projects, travel and accommodation are covered by the client.

  • Primarily documentary work: interview-based films, investigative documentaries, branded series, news features, and NGO storytelling. I also shoot corporate interviews, event coverage, and branded content for companies. I don’t do weddings or music videos.

  • Both. I often work solo or as a small crew for documentary and interview projects. For larger productions — multi-day shoots, commercials, live events — I bring in trusted freelancers I’ve worked with in Berlin.

  • My primary cameras are the Canon EOS C70 and Canon EOS R6 Mark II, both capable of 4K 10-bit. I own a full lighting package (Aputure, Lupo), professional audio (Sennheiser MKH 416, MKH 40, Rode Wireless PRO), gimbals, sliders, and a DJI Mini 4 Pro drone. See the full gear list at nikitapavlov.com/gear. For shoots requiring additional or specialized gear, I have established relationships with rental companies in Berlin.

  • Rates depend on the project type, crew size, and duration. I’m happy to provide a quote quickly — email contact@nikitapavlov.com with a brief project description and dates.

  • I’m often available the same week for straightforward projects. For larger productions, a week or two of lead time is helpful but not always required — reach out and I’ll let you know availability.

  • Yes. I work with a regular editor and can arrange color grading and audio finishing. We can take a project from shoot to final delivery. This is offered as part of full-production packages or as a standalone post service.

  • Yes — Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal, The Economist, VICE, Forbes, National Geographic, 60 Second Docs, Global Citizen, and others. I’m used to working to broadcast standards, fast turnarounds, and remote editorial oversight.

  • Yes. I was one of the episode cinematographers on Navalny (2022), directed by Daniel Roher. The film won the Academy Award and BAFTA for Best Documentary, the Sundance U.S. Documentary Audience Award, and the Sundance Festival Favorite Award.

  • I live in Berlin and work here full-time.
